This project, funded by TeachersFirst.com aims to bring the experience of lab research to an educational audience: science students, gifted students, teachers, friends of science, curious onlookers, …
I, Andy, am spending 10 weeks at Los Alamos National Lab (LANL), as part of the LANL/University of New Mexico (UNM) “Research Experience for Undergraduates” (REU) program. REU is a project of the National Science Foundation, and programs exist at many colleges and universities. If you’re a science student, this is a wonderful opportunity for research experience. Check out the NSF’s REU web site at http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/index.jsp for more information.
During my stay at the lab, I’m living in UNM’s Los Alamos student apartments, attending lectures by LANL scientists, and participating in a research project currently underway at the Lab. Also, I’ll be exploring the surrounding areas on foot, bike, car, bus, etc., and trying to absorb (and consequently bring back to you) some of the unique culture and natural splendor of the American southwest.
I hope you enjoy my blog, and check back often. If you have any questions or comments, please comment on my posts and I’ll do my best to reply as quickly as possible.
Enjoy!
